Records in boxing can sometimes be deceiving, and that is certainly the case when you look at Adrian Granados (18-5-2, 12 KOs).  The Chicago man may have five defeats to his name but all of them can be considered disputed, particularly his last outing against Adrien Broner.

Back in February in Broner’s home state of Ohio, Granados was seen as the winner by judge Phil Rogers but was overruled by Robert Pope and Steve Weisfeld.

Despite that, some viewers felt Granados had done enough in what was a close, enthralling contest between the two men.  Now as he prepares to tackle Shawn Porter (27-2-1, 17 KOs) on November 4, Adrian feels it is time to stop leaving his fate in the hands of the judges.

“This is a fight I want to dominate cause if I give them any excuse to take it from me they will,” Granados told BoxingScene, matter-of-factly.

“It took a while to get this fight, I was a little frustrated with fights that came and were offered but didn’t happen so finally we were able to get a good one and I’m excited for this opportunity.

“I know he [Porter] is an aggressive fighter but I can’t say he’s a dirty fighter because I don’t know but I’ll be ready for whatever he brings to the table.”

Back in 2014, the UK’s Kell Brook was able to defeat Porter on points and nullify some of the things that ‘Showtime’ does most effectively.  To that extent, Granados has had a look at that contest as well as Porter’s only other loss.

“Kell fought a very smart, intelligent fight, that’s what I’m looking to do.  I’m going to be picking some things from both his losses, also the loss to Keith Thurman.

“This is also for the WBC silver belt, that’s why I’m excited about this and it can make me the mandatory, so hopefully I can get that world title shot.”

“The Broner fight was close, it could have gone either way but I know I could have done better in the fight.  I would like to get some revenge for that so that’s why I’m training really hard now so that I’ll come out victorious on November 4.

Having seen potential fights fall through, was a Broner rematch ever a possibility?

“It seems that they didn’t want that rematch but if I become a world champion he’ll want to fight me again - if he wants to be world champion again. I would love to mix it up with him again, I wasn’t at my best for that fight, I wasn’t 100% and I feel I could have fought even better.”

Granados has been training in California recently, sparring with Arizona’s Abel Ramos and benefitting from the nice climate which his base in Chicago does not necessarily provide.  However, he is scheduled to travel back on Tuesday to finalise camp before making his way to New York.
