Alfonso Gomez will fight Yoshihiro Kamegai on March 20, manager Gary Gittelsohn confirmed to BoxingScene.com on Thursday afternoon.

The 10 round bout will headline a Golden Boy Promotions card and will take place at the Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, California and will air on Fox Sports 1.

“The weight limit for the fight is no more than 150 pounds,” Gittelsohn told BoxingScene.com.

Gomez-Kamegai is a crossroads bout between the two fighters and could produce a great deal of action based on their fighting styles.

“It is a very compelling fight between the two,” said Gittelsohn, who also manages Brian Viloria. “This is a case where this type of fight could be on a premium network, but it’s on Fox Sports (where more boxing fans can watch the fight).”

In his last bout on July 9 in Las Vegas, Gomez (24-6-2, 12 KOs) defeated Ed Paredes by unanimous decision over 10 rounds. The bout snapped a two-bout losing streak where Gomez lost to Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Shawn Porter, respectively.

Originally from Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, the 34-year-old Gomez resides in the Los Angeles area. Gomez was a participant in the first season of ‘The Contender’ reality series.

In his last bout on December 13, Kamegai (25-2-1, 22 KOs) stopped Oscar Godoy in the fourth round in Las Vegas. Prior to that bout on June 21, Kamegai lost to Robert Guerrero over 12 rounds in an all-action bout.

Kamegai, who resides in Tokyo, Japan, suffered his first defeat as a pro at the hands of Johan Perez in June of 2013.

In the evening's co-main event Santa Ana, Calif. slugger Ronny Rios (23-1, 10 KOs) is scheduled for a 10-round featherweight bout against Mexicali's Jesus "Kalaka" Navarro (23-9-1, 16 KOs) and former Irish national championship fighter Jamie "The Nuisance" Kavanagh (17-1-1, 8 KOs) will compete in an eight-round televised lightweight match against an opponent yet to be named. In the non-televised undercard, the undefeated Abraham Lopez (17-0, 12 KOs) of La Puente, Calif. will risk his perfect record in an eight-round featherweight contest against Mexico's Juan Carlos "El Pez" Martinez (20-15-1, 7 KOs) and Albert "Baby Dynamite" Herrera (9-10-1, 5 KOs) of Riverside, Calif. will fight in a six-round welterweight brawl against a yet to be announced opponent.
