Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer has asked the WBC for a rematch between Saturday's semi-main event fighters - Jorge Linares and Antonio DeMarco. Way ahead on the scorecards, Linares was stopped at 2:32 of the 11th round of the lightweight title fight.

Linares' face was a bloody mask because of a deep cut on the bridge of his nose and three cuts around his right eye. It  was obviously affecting him in the round, and DeMarco was able to take advantage by punishing Linares during his best round of the fight.

"We asked the WBC to order an immediate rematch," Schaefer said to BoxingScene.com. "That's what Jorge wants and I think that's what Jorge deserves because the fact is Jorge was fighting most of the fight with a bloody face, a very bloody face and yet he kept winning round by round and round by round, even though he had that bloody face.

"He was in the fight and he was stopped, I think, like five seconds (actually 28) before the end of the 11th round and he  was still punching back. He obviously got caught there by some good shots but he was punching."

Schaefer said that under the circumstances, including the championship being on the line, the fair thing would have been for referee Raul Caiz to let Linares finish the round and then have the doctor take a look at him before the 12th.

Linares was ahead by six, six and eight points at the time of the stoppage.

Linares' trainer Freddie Roach is bothered by the idea that all four cuts were supposedly caused by legal blows, at least according to Caiz, who never said otherwise.

"Yeah, I think that warrants a rematch," Roach said. "He fought a very brave fight and the thing is I still say all those cuts didn't come from fair blows like the referee said. If one of those cuts was caused by a head-butt, it goes to the scorecards and we get the decision. There were four cuts and the referee said they were all from legal punches, and I find that hard to believe."
