WBO welterweight champion Gilberto Ramirez (38-0) won a workmanlike unanimous decision over Roamer Angulo (23-1) in Oklahoma City on Saturday night. While not exciting, Ramirez easily won the fight by the scores of 119-109 twice and 120-108.

Angulo had 20 knockouts among his 23 victories and Ramirez's trainer Hector Zapari said that they were surprised at the tactics that he employed in the fight.

The Colombian was considerably shorter than Ramirez but didn't try to get inside very often. Ramirez won the fight boxing from the outside. Angulo tried to lure him in to hit him with counter punches but for the most part his strategy was very ineffective.

Zapari said that Ramirez is very good at making in ring adjustments and while the fight may not have been action packed, he did what he was supposed to do against a fighter who didn't really try to engage.

"It was a tough fight against a big puncher. He completely changed the way that he fights and that surprised us. We thought that he came looking to make it a fight and he surprised us  a bit with the strategy that he used. Gilberto is a fighter that can adapt to any style and do whatever it takes to win and that is what he did," Zapari told BoxingScene.com.

As for what is next, Ramirez, who is 2-0 in 2018, is expected to return to the ring 1 or 2 more times in 2018.  His trainer hopes that his next fight is a unification bout.

"David Benavidez, James DeGale or the George Groves-Callum Smith winner is who we want.  Like Gilberto has said on many occasions, he wants to unify," explained Zapari.
