Newport Leisure Centre in Newport, Wales - Gavin Rees (35-1, 16KOs) is still the EBU lightweight champion after battling Derry Mathews (29-5-1, 15KOs) to a four round technical draw. An accidental clash of heads in the fourth round badly broke Mathews' nose. After a medical physican took a look at the injury, the fight was stopped and ruled a draw because four full rounds had not been completed. The fight was close in the first three rounds, with Mathews getting a slight edge in the boxing department, but Rees was landing the harder punches. At the time of the stoppage, BoxingScene had it 39-38 for the champion.

Entertaining veteran contender Bradley Pryce (32-10, 18 KOs) continued his journey with a close win over Danny Butler (19-5, 4 KOs) at the Newport Leisure Centre in Newport, Wales. Pryce fought on even terms with the younger Butler up until the last ten seconds of the eighth round, when he rocked his opponent with a teeth-clutching right uppercut and floored him with a subsequent left hook to the shoulder. It proved to be a decisive moment in the fight, as the referee (and a sole judge of the contest) raised his hand with 77-75 points win. BoxingScene had it scored the same for the winner.
