Tyson Fury made the promise to remain “an O.G. always” following his World championship winning effort over Wladimir Klitschko last weekend. True to his word, the newly crowned heavyweight king continues to serve as a man of the people.

Days after publicly backing Billy Joe Saunders to unseat middleweight titlist Andy Lee later this month, Fury is now throwing his support behind Lenny Daws ahead of his European super lightweight title fight with Ruben Nieto this weekend.

The bout takes place in Daws’ birth town of Carshalton, England and due to headline on Channel 5 in the United Kingdom. The combination of the two has the heavyweight champ believing fans are in for a treat.

“Lenny is an all-action, no-nonsense fighter who always makes for good television,” said Fury (25-0, 17KOs) of his promotional stablemate, as both are guided by Hennessy Sport. “He's not a prima donna - he's a good, old-fashioned, hard-working pro. He never takes a step back, he's always in entertaining scraps, and he's a proper fighting man.”

Fury and Daws have both spent the entirety of their respective careers fighting under Mick Hennessy’s promotional banner. As his own career developed, Fury worked alongside other promoters for the sake of securing bigger fights but all the while proudly carried himself as a Hennessy Sport fighter.

While not playing to as much fanfare and success, the same can be said of the 36-year old Daws (30-3-2, 11KOs) who has been with Hennessy since his pro debut in April ’03.

“[I]t’s good to see Lenny's loyalty to Mick over the years,” notes Fury, who is awaiting word from his longtime promoter on the date and location for his recently announced plans for a rematch with Klitschko. “While some have jumped ship and been completely disloyal during tough times, Lenny has focused on his boxing, improved his record, and now he's on the verge of winning the European title and breaking into the top ten.

“It's at this level when the fighters really need the support of the nation. I'm hoping Lenny will look at the recent run of results we've had – Nick Blackwell retaining his British title, Lee Haskins becoming IBF world champion, and me beating Klitschko in Germany – and continue that good form. I know he's more than capable of becoming European champion on Saturday night.”

Daws enters the fight having won his last five starts.
