Promoter Frank Warren has backed Liam Smith to gate crash a potential fight between Canelo Alvarez and Billy Joe Saunders.

Team Canelo have expressed an interest to fight the WBO World Middleweight Champion Saunders after Smith, but Warren believes his man Beefy will be victorious on Saturday 17th September to dent that proposed fight.

“There is no possibility of Saunders v Canelo in December because Liam Smith is going to win this fight!" roared the BoxNation chief on a pre-fight media call to help promote the big show in Dallas.

Warren played down that Smith could be caught up in the big fight experience insisting: “Liam is going there as a World Champion. Ask those in the States who he has sparred & trained with, he's a good fighter!"

Frank is tipping his man to step up on the big stage at the impressive AT&T Stadium to cause a shock victory on away turf.

“It will be in my opinion one of the biggest upsets as far as Brits going abroad. It will be the biggest thing of a British boxer in modern times to go out there and do that. That's how significant this fight will be.”

The legendary promoter added: “It's a privilege to be working on a special show. I've never seen Liam so much up for a fight! Joe Gallagher has done a fantastic job with Liam down the years. I can't praise him enough.”

With thousands of fans expected to walk up to the venue on fight-night for Mexican Independence Weekend, Warren urged the fans to show up in their numbers:

“The Mexican people are great, great boxing fans and I want them to be there to see what I believe is one of our great British boxers. They're going to love him. Don't miss this. It will be a history-making fight for a British fighter.”
