Six days before Mike Tyson makes his debut as a lead promoter for a boxing event, the former heavyweight king will see his name associated with another event.

Jonathan ‘Bomba’ Gonzalez and Giovani Segura square off in a 10-round flyweight bout which headlines an independent pay-per-view on August 17, live from Carolina, Puerto Rico.

The supporting cast features two rising young fighters currently under the Iron Mike Productions promotional banner. Felix Diaz and Yudel Jhonson will see undercard action in separate bouts.

“Now we have a more international card, with fighters from Dominican Republic, Cuba, Mexico, the United States and Puerto Rico,” noted Ivan Rivera, whose Puerto Rico Best Boxing Promotions company presents the August 17 event. “Felix Diaz and Yudel Jhonson, two great prospects who were great amateur fighters for their countries, will fight for the first time in Puerto Rico in this great show.”

An opponent is still being sought for Jhonson (14-1, 9KO), a Silver medalist for his native Cuba in the 2004 Athens Games. The super welterweight prospect seeks his third straight win following last year’s Showtime-televised loss to Willie Nelson.

The search is over in finding a ring mate for Diaz (13-0, 7KO). The unbeaten Dominican will face Mexico’s Edgar Llanes (12-4, 7KO) in a scheduled 10-round welterweight attraction.

Diaz and Jhonson originally signed with Acquinity Sports last year, with Diaz one of the showcase fighters of the Dominican Dream Team highlighted by the company. Both still have the same bosses, but now with more muscle – literally and figuratively – after Acquinity’s boxing division combined forces with Tyson to form Iron Mike Productions in June.

Shortly after the announcement came confirmation that the company will promote the season finale of ESPN2 Friday Night Fights, which takes place August 23 in Verona, New York.

Tyson and company hope to have at least two wins to brag about by the time the show rolls around.

Winning has come easy for Diaz, whose last loss was more than six years ago. The southpaw came up just short in the 2007 Pan Am Games quarterfinals against Cuba’s Inocente Fiss, who in turn lost to Gonzalez, who headlines the August 17 show.

Diaz moved on from the setback, including a Gold medal run in the 2008 Beijing Games before turning pro nearly a full year later. The supporting bout against Llanes marks his first appearance in Puerto Rico, having previously fought five times in his native – and neighboring – Dominican Republic, including a 3rd knockout stay busy win in his most recent ring appearance this past June.
