Super featherweights Faroukh Kourbanov (18-3) and Nicola Henchiri (10-5-2) fight for the vacant EBU title December 11 in Herstal, Belgium.

The title was left vacant by Samir Ziani and with the date all set the promoters needed an opponent for Kourbanov but Henchiri, from Italy, comes in off a loss in a fight for the vacant EU title in his most recent outing so he is maybe not the most credible opponent.

Algerian middleweight Loucif Hamani has passed away in Paris after a long illness at the age of 71. Hamani fought in the 1972 Olympics in Munich and reached the quarter finals before losing to future World champ Alan Minter.

Hamani emigrated to France with his parents as a kid and started boxing at the age of eight. In 1976 he beat an aging Emile Griffith and later the same year won the ABU title with a points win over Sea Robinson. In 1980 Hamani was brutally knocked out by a near peak Marvelous Marvin Hagler and he retired in 1983 with a record of 24-3.

Tomorrow (November 11) it's 55 years ago since Italian great Sandro Mazzinghi retained the title by stopping Bo Hogberg in the 14th round in Stockholm in a fight that is widely regarded as one of the most brutal and best fights ever fought on Swedish soil. Hogberg was incredibly brave but Mazzinghi was just as brave and a better boxer and wore down the Swede.

Both men have since sadly passed away but on Friday (November 12) a play opens in Torino, Italy, based on Mazzinghi's life.. It's called L'Uomo Senza Paura, which according to google translate means The Man Without Fear.

German cruisers Leon Harth (20-4) and Enrico Koelling (27-4) clash for the vacant WBO European title on Friday (Nov 12) in Bielefeld. This is an interesting fight between two fighters who've been near the top but lost the important ones - especially true for former Olympian Koelling, who turned pro with Team Sauerland.

German heavyweight Tom Schwarz (26-1) was charged with grave assault (an incident that took place in May 2020) after apparently beating up his then girlfriend and was facing a maximum of ten years in jail but in court he got off with just a fine of 2500 Euro.

BILD describes the verdict as a joke but the court appears to believe in a witness who saw the two getting into a very heated argument.. Still, the girlfriend in question seems to be rather small while Mr. Schwarz is a big heavyweight.

Schwarz was previously with SES and was stopped in two by Tyson Fury back in 2019.
