Erik "Terrible" Morales is reportedly in the best physical condition of his entire career, as he continues to train at the Otomi Ceremonial Center in the mountains of Temoaya. Morales is going through the toughest technical preparation for what he considers to be the most important fight of his career, on September 17 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Morales is going to face Argentina's Lucas Martin Matthysse for the vacant WBC super lightweight world title.

The Tijuana star is receiving many rounds of hard sparring from Ramon "Golden Boy" Ayala and Jose Alfaro, who faces Humberto Soto this coming Saturday. Morales' father and trainer, Jose "Olivaritos" Morales, is aware of every detail, and coach Fernando Fernandez is helping with several aspects of the camp.
