MGM Grand at Foxwoods Resort, Mashantucket, Connecticut - A battle of unbeaten super middleweights saw Edwin Rodriguez (22-0, 15KOs) batter Jason Escalera (13-1-1, 12KOs) over eight rounds to secure a TKO victory and retains his USBA super middleweight title.

Rodriguez has a size advantage from the start. They both weighed in at 166/165 on Friday, but Rodriguez rehydrated to 186 and Escalera only came back to 176. It wasn't long before Rodrguez rocked Escalera and started battering him. For most of the first round, it was a one-sided beating as Rodriguez punished him with both hands. Escalera somehow survived the first, and then survived the second, third and fourth rounds without too much punishment.

During the fifth, Rodriguez rocked Escalera but once again he wasn't able to finish him. Rodriguez came out throwing bombs in the sixth. After some more punishment in the seventh, referee Steve Smoger stopped the fight in the eight when Rodriguez blasted Escalera with some big punches and ripped his right ear open with one of the shots.
