Edgar Sosa (43-7, 26KOs) returned to Mexico and was greeted by his family and friends who held a celebration for the former champion. Sosa returned from Thailand, where he lost a twelve round unanimous decision to WBC champion Pongsaklek Wonjongkam (83-3-1, 45KOs) last Friday. Sosa chased the fight for a long time and fought his way to mandatory contender status. The Thai champion really impressed Sosa.

Sosa reiterated his view that Pongsaklek "is a great champion, has a lot of resources, he is intelligent and he can withstand punishment. We hoped that after the sixth round, he would begin to tire but he didn't. And the high temperature caused my condition to diminish before his. Pongsaklek is very clever and he is a complete fighter. There were two or three times where he hit me with some very strong punches, but there was never any one punch that really hurt me."

"I'm pleased that the supervisor (Frank Quill of the WBC) told me the fight was a lot closer than the actual scores by the judges, and he's going to ask that this loss doesn't affect me in the rankings."
