The rematch between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano will not be reorganised for Germany, according to Taylor’s promoter Eddie Hearn.

Since the ill-advised contest between the 57-year-old Mike Tyson and Jake Paul had been postponed, it had been reported that Taylor-Serrano II could take place in Frankfurt – Tyson-Paul was to be at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on July 20 – but Hearn is expecting it to be rescheduled for October, and to remain in the US.

Hearn’s Matchroom had overseen the first fight between Taylor, 37, and the 35-year-old Serrano in April 2022, and while the rematch is being promoted by Most Valuable Promotions (MVP), he said: “If that’s the case, if the show ends up [in Germany], she’d be on it, but we’ve not heard that at all.

“They’ll reschedule for, probably, October – something like that. But, who knows?

“That’s what we’re being told.

“At the end of the day, it’s not our show. I’m not supporting the show promotionally. It was purely the opportunity for Katie Taylor – in terms of the fight and in terms of the purse.

“She boxed in November, so July was perfect, really. October’s a bit too long – you’ll be out of the ring for nearly a year, which isn’t ideal. She’s frustrated, but she’s calm, and experienced.”

Hearn’s wider uncertainty reflects that surrounding Tyson, who became unwell during a flight in May and was therefore taken to hospital. The considerably more active Paul is 27 years old.

“The upcoming highly anticipated boxing match between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson will unfortunately be postponed,” read a statement from MVP. “During a follow-up consultation on Thursday with medical professionals on his recent ulcer flare up, the recommendation is for Mike Tyson to do minimal to light training over the next few weeks and then return to full training with no limitations.

“Both Mike and Jake are in agreement that it is only fair to ensure that both athletes have equal training time to prepare for this important match and are able to compete at the highest level.”
