Top Rank Promotions President, Todd duBoef, has clarified that there are presently no ongoing talks with Golden Boy Promotions CEO, Richard Schaefer, concerning a third bout between eight-division champ and WBO welterweight belt-holder, Manny Pacquiao, and WBO and WBA lightweight titlist Juan Manuel Marquez.

The stepson of Top Rank Promotions CEO, Bob Arum, duBoef works to promote Pacquiao (52-3-2, 38 knockouts), and Schaefer has promoted Marquez (52-5-1, 38 KOs).

A three-division titlist, Marquez has battled to a disputed draw, and, through a split-decision loss, respectively, against Pacquiao in May of 2004, and, March of 2008.

DuBoef said that he has not spoken to Schaefer "at all since November or December," when Marquez was being considered as a potential Pacquiao opponent long with three-division, five-time titlist, Shane Mosley, and, WBC welterweight king, Andre Berto.

"We were getting all of the names that were potential opponents for Manny. We got a price from [Berto's promoter] Lou DiBella, and I took terms from Richard for Marquez, and Bob had the Mosley terms, and we went to the Philippines," said duBoef. "Other than that conversation that I had with Richard Schaefer at that time, I haven't had any conversation since then. ."

Pacquiao chose Mosley (46-6-1, 39 KOs), against whom he will defend his WBO belt on May 7 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

The notion arose last week, when Schaefer told BoxingScene.com that he would be meeting this week in Mexico with Marquez to not only address the status of their contract with one another, but also, Marquez's desire for a third bout with Pacquiao.

Schaefer said Marquez's contract with Golden Boy Promotions is nearing its end, but that there is a 30-day window during which Golden Boy Promotions can resign Marquez, adding that the company has the right, through Feb. 27, 2012, to match the best offer that Marquez receives from an opposing promoter.

In the meantime, however, Schaefer said that Top Rank Promotions has attempted to steal Marquez through ally and Zanfer Promotions' President, Fernando Beltran, who co-promotes Mexican ex-champion Antonio Margarito (38-7, 27 KOs), and, Mexican junior middleweight and middleweight prospect Julio Cesar Chavez (41-0-1, 30 KOs), with Top Rank.

"Marquez told us in a meeting sometime late last year in our offices that he has been approached by Juan Carlos, who is a nephew of Fernando Beltran, and who is like Beltran's scout, or, agent down there. He said that he has been approached and that he has been told that they can get the Manny Pacquiao fight if he would not be with Golden Boy Promotions," said Schaefer.

"Marquez asked us if it would be okay if he could talk to them. We said, 'Well look, I am actually in talks and in discussions and negotiations with Todd duBoef about a potential Pacquiao-Marquez fight,'" said Schaefer, "and that he should tell me what kind of money he was looking for and what kind of deal structure he was looking for and that I would then communicate that to Todd duBoef."
