IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (24-1, 13KOs) has been a pretty popular figure in the boxing press for the last two weeks. Alexander withdrew, due to injury, from a scheduled fight with mandatory challenger Kell Brook. But, the following day WBC champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. made a statement on Twitter which named Alexander as "the frontrunner" to fight him on May 4th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The sequence of events raised a lot of questions.

Alexander, right now, plans to move forward with his contracted fight against Brook. He doesn't rule out the possibility of going in another direction if a Mayweather fight was put on the table.

Why Alexander Did Not Immediately Dispute Floyd's Tweet

Why would I do that? A lot of people call me out. He could say what he wants to say. A lot of people say that they're going to fight me. A lot of people say they want to fight me. I don't come out and say 'no, you're not.' I just let it be because I know who I'm going to fight. I know who I have contractual agreements with. It was a coincidence.

Choosing Floyd Over Brook if Both Fights Were Offered

I will fight whoever my managers, my advisers and my promoters give me to fight. If its the right fight at the right time. If its a B.B.D. - a big, better deal - that's what I'll do. Who doesn't want to fight the best in boxing, which is Floyd Mayweather. So if I had to choose, of course I would want to fight Floyd. That's no question, because Mayweather can bring what Brook can't. Brook is trying to win his first world title.

What He Would Do if Floyd Called Him With a Solid Offer

This is my career.... if Floyd were to call me...I don't know [what I would do]. You guys want me to say I'm fighting Floyd. I cannot say that because it's not true.
