James DeGale’s maiden EBU super-middleweight title defense against Cristian Sanavia has gone back out to purse bids according to the European Union’s title notices.  DeGale was due to make the first defense of the belt on the undercard of George Groves’s March 16th rematch with Kenny Anderson.  However the EBU has claimed that DeGale has failed to reach an agreement with his promoter Frank Warren.  The new bids are due to be in by the 31st of this month.

DeGale won an Olympic gold medal in the 2008 Games and forged a 10-0 (8) slate before dropping a majority decision to his bitter rival Groves last May.  October's EBU title win over Piotr Wilczewski was DeGale’s first outing since losing his ‘0’ and he took a lot of shots during the hard fought majority decision victory.  ‘Chunky’, though, is not short on confidence and was widely expected to ease past the Italian southpaw; he now faces a one week wait for a new fight date.
