Oscar De La Hoya, promoter for unbeaten Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (35-0-1, 26 KOs), was calm when discussing his boxer's recent failure to make weight. Later tonight, Alvarez is scheduled to face Matthew Hatton (41-4-2, 16 KOs) at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. The bout, agreed upon for a catchweight of 150-pounds, will have the vacant WBC junior middleweight title on the line.

On Friday, Alvarez failed to make weight, twice. The first time, he weighed in at 151.8-pounds. He came back 90 minutes later and weighed 151.4. The two sides got together and a further agreement was reached behind closed doors. Hatton will receive $35,000 from Alvarez's purse. Alvarez will have to weigh in for a second time at 3PM. There will be further penalities if he weighs more than 160-pounds.

Alvarez is only 20-years-old. De La Hoya, President of Golden Boy Promotions, says the boxer is growing and the inability to make weight is natural.

"I think the weight is natural. He's young and still growing. It's because he's growing, but the problem was solved and there is agreement [with Hatton]. The most important thing is that there will be a war between Saul Alvarez and Matthew Hatton," said De La Hoya.

"It's a huge stage for Canelo. The biggest challenge that he's ever faced. We all believe that he's ready for the challenges in this fight and everything after it. I truly believe that he will be bigger than me."
