Welterweight contender Jo Jo Dan (29-2) took some punishment in his rematch with Selcuk Aydin, which took place on Saturday night in Trabzon, Turkey. Aydin (23-0), the WBC's silver champion, won a twelve round unanimous decision at a packed Spor Salonu. Dan was knocked down twice by Aydin, in the first and 11th rounds. Aydin won their first meeting 17 months, by way of a controversial split decision. This time there was little to no controversy.

After the fight was over, Dan was taken to a Trabzon hospital to get stitches to both eyes and he may have suffered a fractured jaw, according to his trainer, Pierre Bouchard.

Dan was planning to make it a very dominating fighy by outworking the champion in every round, but his workrate was lacking in a few of the rounds and left himself open to Aydin's much harder punches, which caused the two knockdowns and allowed the champion to keep the title with scores of 115-111, 113-112 and 113-112.

“I’m disappointed,” Chris Ganescu, Dan’s promoter, told The Montreal Gazette. “He didn’t follow the game plan. He came to win decisively.”
