BoxingScene.com understands that Nathan Cleverly’s next defense of his WBO light heavyweight title will be against Denis Simcic at Cardiff’s Motorpoint Arena in October.

Simcic, a German based Slovenian, is currently ranked number three by the WBO and boasts a record of 28 wins, 1 loss with 14 knockouts and last fought in March of this year when winning the organization’s lowly regarded European light-heavyweight title.

Although nothing has been confirmed as of yet the news will no doubt be met with negativity after mounting speculation linking the Welshman with a unification fight against WBA champion Beibut Shumenov.

A press conference is scheduled for next Monday (Sept 3) when further details will be announced.
