Chazz Witherspoon won’t approach Seth Mitchell the way Witherspoon has seen some of Mitchell’s previous opponents come at him.

The 30-year-old Witherspoon intends to bring the fight to the hard-hitting Mitchell in their 12-round HBO co-feature April 28 in Atlantic City.

“Anyone who knows me knows that when Chazz Witherspoon comes into a fight, he’s coming to fight,” Witherspoon said. “I come to rumble. I don’t fear any man. When I fight the best I’m not going to come and fight them like I’m scared of them.”

Witherspoon (30-2, 22 KOs), of Paulsboro, N.J., has noticed that many Mitchell opponents are hesistant and intimidated when facing the former Michigan State football player. Witherspoon, a second cousin of former heavyweight champ Tim Witherspoon, knows he has to be aggressive to have a chance to become the first professional to defeat the rapidly rising Mitchell (24-0-1, 18 KOs).

“I’m not trying to say all his other opponents were scared of him,” Witherspoon said, “but when you watch the fights, when they’re fighting him they’re throwing punches like they’re trying to keep him off of them and not really committing to their punches. They’re fighting scared, so to speak, and I’m not a guy that’s going to come in like that.

“My heart doesn’t pump any Kool-Aid, you know, and I know Seth’s heart doesn’t pump any Kool-Aid. So you’re going to have two men in there trying to win the fight. I believe I’m going to have a good showing for myself.”
