There are unconfirmed rumors in Mexico that Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. is over the WBC's 30-day safety weight. Chavez returns on September 17th in Mexico, making the first defense of his WBC middleweight title against Ronald Hearns. The WBC held their 30-day safety weigh-in on Thursday. Hearns weighed in at 174.51-pounds. The WBC never disclosed the weight of Chavez and never confirmed whether or not the boxer actually complied with the safety weigh-in.

During Monday's press conference to announce the fight, Chavez was visibly bigger than Hearns, and several members of the local press made speculations that Chavez was weighing between 180 to 190-pounds at the press conference.

Unlike his famous father who fought in the lower weight divisions, Chavez Jr. has a big frame and he's infamous for gaining large amounts of weight between fights. For his June fight with Sebastian Zbik, Chavez made the 160-pound limit, but gained a massive 20-pounds overnight and stepped in the ring at 180-pounds - more than two divisions above his fighting weight.

Chavez's trainer Freddie Roach will not be a part of his camp for Hearns. Strength and conditioning coach Alex Ariza will be present for the entire camp.
