WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. sat down to speak with us about the WBC's threat to withdraw their sanction of his upcoming fight with Ronald Hearns, scheduled for September 17 in Culiacan. The WBC is angry that Chavez switched the date from the 24th to the 17th, which makes him go head to head with Mexican rival Saul Alvarez, who defends his WBC 154-pound belt against Alfonso Gomez at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The WBC says Chavez is "dividing the boxing audience and hurting all of the fighters involved."

"I had not heard about it. I'm training and I think it's beneficial for the boxing fans, that on the 17th people could see the two most popular fighters [in Mexico]. Of course, they would have to change channels, but I do not look at it as competition. I'll try to give my best and give a good fight," Chavez said.

Chavez states the original date had to be changed because of an already scheduled HBO date on November 19. HBO usually has a contract clause that prevent boxers from fighting 60-days before a scheduled televison date - to prevent the possibility of an injury or a loss before the TV date.

"Accordingly, they want to fight on November 19, but I have to have at least two months (difference between fights), but otherwise I do not care. I'm preparing for the 17 (September); and I understand that if I get cut it could cancel out [the other fight]. Yes, I think there was a problem with HBO in that aspect, there is something with that, hence the change," Chavez said.

If given a choice between his mandatory, Marco Antonio Rubio or WBA champion Felix Sturm for Novembr 19th - Chavez would rather face Sturm and unify.

"I would like to unify with Sturm, but I won't break the rules and avoid my mandatory. I'd like to fight with Sturm, but most likely it's going to be Rubio or Peter Manfredo on the 19th of November. Rubio is number one. After the optional, I have to fight the number one. [But] Hearns is not an easy fight. I know it can be a tough fight. He's not a great fighter, and not great champion, but he's tough and I have be 100% ready to win."
