Later tonight, live on GFL.tv, Charlie Ota (Charles Bellamy) will do battle with the rugged Mike Ruiz (17-7) as part of Lou DiBella's "Broadway Boxing" from the Aviator Sports Complex in Brooklyn, New York.  Recently Charlie (23-1-1) had the chance to sit down with Boxingscene.com to discuss his upcoming fight with Ruiz, fighting in Japan, his name change, and much more.

Boxingscene.com: How is training coming along for your up coming bout with Mike Ruiz?

Charlie Ota: Not too bad. Couldn't plan that much for specific things but still got a lot of good work in.

Boxingscene.com: This is only your second fight in the US. How exciting is it to fight in front of your hometown crowd for only the second time of your career?

Charlie Ota: It's feels good. I've been waiting a long time for these opportunities to show what I can do.

Boxingscene.com: What do you know about your opponent? Is their any certain weakness you plan to expose?

Charlie Ota: I heard he was aggressive so I hope that's true. We will not have to look for each other so it should be fun to watch.

Boxingscene.com: How did you end up relocating to Japan and turning pro out there?

Charlie Ota: I was first sent out there when I joined the military. After being honorable discharged from the Navy I was offered a job out there and figured hey why not. Soon after I started going to a gym and just kept at it.

Boxingscene.com: Do the Japanese fans treat you like the hometown guy or are you consistently an underdog?

Charlie Ota: Hmm depends. I'm not always treated as the hometown guy but I am respected.

Boxingscene.com: In a perfect world where would your first title shot be US or Japan?

Charlie Ota: I would say Japan. That were all of my supporters are at so I would like to win it there in front of them. For a defense I would like to do a fight in America.

Boxingscene.com: What are your plans for 2014?

Charlie Ota: A big fight. Something has to happen next year!

Boxingscene.com: Anyone on the top of your list?

Charlie Ota: Anyone in the top ten. Of course a title holder would be nice too.

Boxingscene.com: What about an all Japan showdown with a guy like Isidha?

Charlie Ota: Yea that would be cool but the only way he'll fight me is, most likely, only if I can get a belt.

Boxingscene.com: If you to choose your dream fight in 2014 who would it be?

Charlie Ota: Well I would want to establish my self as a champion so a dream fight would be a champion at 154 and 147.

Boxingscene.com: Can you explain the change in last name from Bellamy to Ota?

Charlie Ota: It's not really a name change but two people. The first person to help me with boxing and sponsor me name is Ohta. So to show appreciation I used Charlie Ohta for my ring name. He felt very gratified for it. But I was the one who appreciated it, for him sponsoring me.

Boxingscene.com: What helped make your decision to sign with Lou DiBella?

Charlie Ota: Lou wanted to help me out which I needed. Plus Lou cares about fighters. You can see how passionate he gets when bad decisions and fighters getting robbed. Sounds like a good guy to have in your corner.

Boxingscene.com: What can fans expect from you this Saturday live worldwide on GFL.tv?

Charlie Ota:  I'm going out there to win and do it impressively!
