On September 2nd, veteran welterweight Carson Jones (40-11-3) will have the biggest opportunity of his career since facing Kell Brook in 2012 and again in 2013. In their first encounter Jones gave Brook all that he handle in a majority decision loss that some observers felt he did enough to earn the victory.

The new opportunity comes in the super welterweight division against former champion Antonio Margarito (40-8).  The action takes place in Chihuahua, Mexico and will be televised by Azteca in Mexico and BEIN Español in the United States.

As a veteran of over 50 professional fights it seems surprising that Jones is just 30 years old. He has won three fights in a row including his last fight which took place in November when he traveled back to the UK and defeated the then unbeaten Ben Hall.

"It is a great feeling. I have been kind of waiting for this fight for a while now. I had that fight in England back in November and by the time I fight it will be like 10 months. I thought we would have got something a little quicker but we were patient and we found a big opportunity and I am going to take full advantage of it. I am going to pound on Mr. Margarito," said Jones who believed the victory over Hall would have led him to another big fight across the pond.

"I thought I was going to end up fighting Sam Eggington over there but it didn't necessarily pan out. You can't cry over that and you gotta look forward to this fight I have coming up."

Last year Margarito ended a four year retirement with victories over Jorge Paez Jr and Ramon Alvarez but looked like a shell of his former "Tornado" self in both fights. He even hit the canvas against the smaller Paez in his first fight back.

Jones said that he had come close to facing Margarito before his retirement but feels that the timing is much better now to face the former iron chinned volume puncher.

"At this point I think his best days are behind him. He is not the same fighter he was five years ago or probably even before that. He isn't the same fighter as yesterday. We actually tried to make this fight in, probably 2010, and at that time I guess it just wasn't the right time but now I think the timing is perfect because I am a lot better than what I was and he is on the down slide. I think boxing is all about timing and the timing is now," Jones told BoxingScene.com.

Jones will enter the ring with a heavy heart as one of his close friends recently lost her teenage son. He said that he will dedicate the fight and the victory that he is sure of getting to both of them and their family.

"My friend Michelle Doughty just lost her 17-year-old son Jason and she is having a hard time with it so I would like to dedicate this fight to her and her son. No parent should ever have to go through that," said Jones.
