The island of Puerto Rico has a storied history in the sport of boxing. Fighters from all over the island have become world champions but the small island of Vieques is not on that list.  Carlos “El TeTe” Rosario (2-0) hopes to change that.

On Saturday he will step in the ring for the third time as a professional against Miguel Polanco, who will be making his pro debut. The fight will take place at 135 pounds as Rosario makes his way down to the featherweight division.

The main event of the Promocciones Miguel Cotto, H2 Entertainment and Sansur Boxing Promotions card is Juan Carlos "El Indio" Camacho taking on Luis Domingo Hernandez as part of the Boxeo al Máximo Internacional series.

“Vieques has many talented fighters. I hope to show everyone that they should not underestimate or forget about Vieques boxing,” Rosario told BoxingScene.com.

Hurricane Maria and then the COVID-19 pandemic caused him to delay his professional debut. At 25-years old, he knew it was now or never to make the transition.

After a short stint in Florida, Rosario decided to return to Puerto Rico and teamed up with former multi-divisional champion and up and coming trainer Ivan Calderon.

“To learn from a legend like ‘Iron Boy’ Calderon I knew would benefit me in so many ways. I just want to be active and fight as much as possible to show everyone what I can do and to put on a great show for my fans. I can fight from 126 to 140, but I will be campaigning in the 126 and130 pound divisions,” Rosario stated.

If all goes well the plan is for him to return to the ring in the spring.
