Pablo Cesar Cano (25-1-1, 19KOs) is still beaming over Saturday's victory over previously undefeated Johan Perez (15-1-1, 12KOs) in Cancun, Mexico. Cano captured the interim-WBA super lightweight title by majority decision with scores of 68-65, 68-65 and 67-67. The fight was stopped early due to a cut over the right eye of Cano. The boxer has dedicated the victory to his veteran trainer Rudy Perez.

"I want give thanks to God that I'm a world champion. I dedicate my coronation to my coach Rudy Perez, for everything that he taught me. I promised him the title. [Johan Perez] is certainly a great fighter and hits hard and he was undefeated. In the second round, a head clash opened up a cut on my right eyebrow and in the seventh another head clash opened the cut even further and then the referee stopped the fight. The doctor would not let me continue. I was up on two cards and won. Perez moved well, but I beat him with power punching. In every round I hit him to the stomach. I had him [ready to go] twice, but he escaped. This victory is very important to me," Cano said.
