The Executive Committee of the World Boxing Association, which held a meeting in San José, Costa Rica, approved a direct rematch between Panamanian Celestino "Pelenchin" Caballero and featherweight champion Jonathan Barros. The WBA approved the protest which was submitted by Caballero and his team, after he suffered a controversial decision loss to Barros on July 2 at the Polideportivo La Colonia in Junín, Mendoza, Argentina. Starting on July 30, the two sides have 120 days to stage the fight.

In the first meeting, one judge scored it 115-111 for Caballero (34-4, 23KOs), and the other two judges had it 116-111 and 114-112 for Barros (33-1-1, 18KOs), who went down twice in the fight.
