All-action John Simpson will make the first defence of his Celtic Super-Featherweight title on the big Ricky Burns-Kevin Mitchell world title card at Glasgow’s SECC on Saturday 22nd September.

Simpson, a former Commonwealth and three-time British Champion, beat previous conqueror Paul Appleby in a thrilling contest in June to win the title with a stunning sixth round stoppage.

And he’s looking to put on another impressive showing against the Welshman on the massive fight night.

“This is an important fight for me and a win could lead towards a British title shot again or a potential European title,” said Simpson.

“It was a big lift to win the Celtic title against Appleby and in the manner I did it in which made a big statement that I’m back in the mix,”

“I’m looking to put on a similar performance against Davies in front of a massive crowd on the biggest fight of the year between Burns and Mitchell.”

The Frank Warren Promotions event, in association with Alex Morrison, will be headlined by Ricky Burns’ WBO World Lightweight title defence against Kevin Mitchell in the highly anticipated Scotland-England showdown.

Also on the card is former WBO World Featherweight Champion Scott Harrison who is now back on the comeback trail after recording his first win in six years in June with a fourth round stoppage of Gyorgy Mizsei.  Harrison, now in the lightweight division, will feature in an eight-round contest as he works towards become a three-time world champion.

The card will also feature hot unbeaten prospect Bradley Saunders, plus Scottish stars John Thain, Stephen Simmons, Jonathan Slowey, Michael Roberts, Ryan Collins, Sammy Hill and Hugh Gray.

Burns v Mitchell will be televised live and exclusive on BoxNation (Sky Ch. 437/Virgin Ch. 546).  Join now at www.boxnation.com
