Charlie Flynn is out of his next fight.

The 22-year-old Commonwealth Games gold medallist, who is 8-0 (1 KO) in the paid code, had been set for action on the undercard of a Sky Sports-aired bill.

Flynn was set to come up against Manchester’s Kofi Yates (13-2, 1 KO) at the SSE Hydro, with the pair vying for a title.

But their showdown, which was set to come on the same card as Ricky Burns’ mandatory defence of the WBA super-lightweight crown against Kiryl Relikh on October 7, has had to be canned.

This is because ‘Mailman’ Flynn, who is a former postman, fractured his ribs in the build-up to the fight, leaving him with no option but to withdraw from the contest against the 24-year-old, whose last fight was a 10-round points defeat to Liverpool’s Tom Farrell in an eliminator for the English super-lightweight title in May.

“I’ve cracked/fractured my ribs in sparring in the build-up to this fight and been unable to train or spar,” Flynn wrote on Facebook.

“[It’s] bad news [and] I’ll have to give this show a miss [but] hopefully [I will] be back before the end of the year.

“[I] appreciate all the support [and] I’ll refund all money back to people who no longer want to go.

“I’m sorry about that, folks, but there’s not much I can do. I’m absolutely gutted but that’s boxing.”

Flynn also confirmed via social media that he has a fractured ankle which is currently housing seven stitches.

Meanwhile, Stewart Burt (5-0-1), Lewis Paulin (6-0) and Scott McCormack (4-2-1) have been added to the bill which already features Dillian Whyte’s tussle with fellow Brixton heavyweight Ian Lewison for the vacant British title, Scotty Cardle in a mandatory defence of his British lightweight title against Kevin Hooper and both Joe Ham and Ohara Davies in eight-round clashes.
