In perhaps the upset of the day, things remained civil during an otherwise tense weigh-in as Adrien Broner and Emmanuel Taylor made weight for their Showtime-televised headliner Saturday evening at US Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio.

The two fighters have traded harsh words all week, with Broner going so far as to attempt to choke Taylor during Thursday's presser. A brawl was predicted to break out during Friday's weigh-in, but both fighters behaved, simply exchnaging words while posing for the cameras after making weight.

Meeting the contracted weight limit was an issue the last time Broner fought in front of his hometown crowd. The former three-division champ had no such issues this time around, tipping the scales at the divisional limit of 140 lb. Taylor came in at a svelte 138.5lb. for his first appearance on Showtime Boxing's flagship series.

In the co-feature, Lucas Matthysse takes on unbeaten Roberto Ortiz in a bout recently upgraded to a 12-round super lightweight affair. Both fighters came in comfortably under the 140 lb. divisional limit. Matthysse came in at 139 lb., while Ortiz (31-0-1, 24KOs) tipped the scales at 139.5 lb.

The winner of the chief support will be in line for a future crack at Danny Garcia, who is presently heading towards a purse bid for a mandatory title defense versus Viktor Postol. However, their stands a better chance that wins by Broner and Matthysse will lead to a head-on collision, in line with the design of this weekend's card.

Broner (28-1, 22KOs) won his first title at home, battering Vicente Rodriguez for a 130 lb. belt in Nov. '11. His title reign also ended at home and on the scales, showing up well over the limit for his July '12 clash with Vicente Escobedo. The bout was nearly canceled before Escobedo was compensated for the ordeal, also earning a beatdown as Broner scored a 5th round stoppage in his last fight at home.

Title wins at 135 and 147 have followed, with his welterweight reign coming to an end following a humiliating loss to Marcos Maidana last December. The bout serves as his lone loss to date, having rebounded with a 10-round points win over Carlos Molina this past May.

Taylor (18-2, 12KOs) bounced back from a loss to Chris Algieri earlier this year with an upset win over Karim Mayfield this past July. The showdown with Broner marks the first time Taylor fights in a scheduled 12-round bout.

Matthysse (35-3, 33KOs) was once regarded as the most feared man in the sport. A bit of that shine was dulled in a points loss to Garcia last September. The free-swinging Argentine was made to look human this past April, surviving two knockdowns to score an 11th round stoppage of John Molina this past April in a Fight of the Year candidate.

Leading off the Showtime Championship Boxing tripleheader, Andre Berto returns for the first time since a shocking 12th round knockout loss to Jesus Soto Karass last July. The former welteweight titlist faces Steve Upsher Chambers in a scheduled 10-round over-the-limit welterweight bout.

Berto (28-3, 22KOs) weighed in at 148.5 lb; Chambers (24-3-1, 6KOs) was a slim and trim 145.5 lb.
