Adrien Broner reiterated during an interview that’ll air before his fight Saturday night on Showtime that his loss to Shawn Porter was more about what he did wrong than what Porter did right.

“Anybody can watch that fight and just look like, you know, that wasn’t the full Adrien Broner,” Broner told Showtime’s Mark Kriegel. “And me, personally, I know that. I really don’t want to get into what I really feel because only I know that I beat myself that night. And I can assure you it won’t happen again.”

When Kriegel asked Broner to elaborate, Broner declined.

“It ain’t for me to explain, you know,” Broner said.

Porter (26-1-1, 16 KOs) easily beat Broner (30-2, 22 KOs) in their 12-rounder June 20 at MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Broner spent much of their fight holding Porter and keeping away from him. He dropped Porter in the 12th round, yet still lost by considerable margins on two of the three scorecards (118-108, 115-111, 114-112) in a bout that was contested at a maximum catch weight of 144 pounds.

“The biggest thing for me is leaving the ring knowing I could’ve did more,” Broner told Kriegel. “That’s what brings tears to eyes, when I leave the ring and I know I could’ve did more. That’s what hurt me.”

The 26-year-old Broner will return to the ring Saturday night in his hometown of Cincinnati, where he’ll encounter Russian southpaw Khabib Allakhverdiev (19-1, 9 KOs) in a 12-round fight for the vacant WBA super lightweight crown. If Broner wins this 140-pound championship bout, he’ll have captured world titles in four weight classes.

Showtime’s telecast is scheduled to begin at 10 p.m. Puerto Rico’s Jose Pedraza (20-0, 12 KOs) will defend his IBF super featherweight title against Edner Cherry (34-6-2, 19 KOs, 1 NC), of Wauchula, Fla., in the first of two fights Showtime will televise.
