AFRICAN warrior Bethuel Ushona is ready to end Denton Vassell’s Commonwealth welterweight title reign in the Mancunian’s first defence.

Ushona, unbeaten in 23 fights challenges for Vassell’s crown at Wigan’s Robin Park Arena on Saturday March 26.

The Namibian, 29, said: “I have fought in America before, so it will not be hard to fight in Wigan.

“This is a great opportunity and I just want to make sure I take every opportunity that comes up for me.

“I’m always confident, that’s the mentality I have going into every fight. I am sure I will win.”

Ushona currently holds the WBO Africa title and added: “I want to be one of the greatest fighters in the world.

“I will do everything possible to achieve that, but like I said you have to take every opportunity and this is one of them.”

His promoter Nestor Tobias accepts that this will be the toughest test in Ushona’s eight-and-a-half year professional career.

He says:  “It is going to be a very tough fight and Bethuel has been training hard. I don’t know if you can say he is the favourite even though he has more wins. That is for bookmakers to decide.”

Vassell, unbeaten in 16 contests will be making the first defence of a title he won against Lee Purdy last April.

A second title fight on the bill sees Blackpool’s Matt Askin challenge Neil Dawson for the vacant Central Area cruiserweight title in a battle of unbeaten men.

Other action packed clashes include Tom Doran Adam Little, Rhys Roberts. Jez Wilson, Jazza Dickinson and Tom Shaw.

Tickets for this big night of title action are available £30, £55 (Ringside) and £75 VIP Ringside, www.brandhatton.com   /0844 847 2500/0161 775 7500
