BoxingScene.com has been advised that a lightweight battle between former title challenger Ray Beltran (29-7-1) and Ivan Najera (16-2) is in the works for May 21st in Laredo, Texas.

Beltran, who is promoted by Top Rank, last fought on May 1st, 2015 when he wiped out Takahiro Ao in two rounds in Las Vegas. The result was changed to a no-contest when Beltran tested positive for anabolic steroids after the fight. Now that his suspension is lifted, he is looking to work his way back towards title contention.

Najera, who was recently released by Top Rank, has lost his past two bouts after beginning his career 16-0. His losses were to unbeaten blue chip prospects Felix Verdejo and Saul Rodriguez.

The 23-year-old said that he is excited about the opportunity.

"I'm just very excited about the opportunity that I have by taking on this fight to show everyone what I can do when I'm 100 percent dedicated and ready to fight," Najera told BoxingScene.com.

Beltran told BoxingScene.com in Wednesday morning that the fight is being discussed but that as of this moment, he hasn't agreed to the terms being offered.

If a deal is reached the fight will be broadcast as part of UniMas' Solo Boxeo series.
