Roy Jones Jr.-Denis Lebedev Result

Russian bantamweight Alexander Bakhtin (27-0, 11 KOs), 29, succesfully moved up in weight with an easy decision over aging Mexican Jose Angel Berranza (33-20-2, 26 KOs).

WBC #7 Bakhtin, who is also ranked #5 by the IBF at 118 lbs, was simply sharper and smarter than his 35-year old opponent giving him a comprehensive boxing lesson throughout ten one-sided rounds.

Scores were 100-90 (Vladimir Nazarov and Baban Nadyrov) and 100-91 (Alexander Kalinkin) - for Bakhtin. BoxingScene also saw it 100-90. Referee was Evgueny Gorstkov.

WBC #6 and IBF #14 and NABF light heavyweight champion Ismayl Sillakh (16-0, 13 KOs) scored a devastating third-round stoppage of Ugandan master Hamza Wandera (12-3-2, 11 KOs) in a non-title bout.

Sillakh, 26, was just way better than his awkward opponent. He played with him in the opening rounds just fooling the clumsy African boxer on his way out and punished him with strong counter right hands. In round three Wandera, 27, was forced to run for dear life with his back turned. He was soon down on a combination of hard blows by the Ukrainian. Referee Steve Smoger allowed the fight to go but soon stopped it nevertheless with Wandera being hit at will in the ropes. Time of stoppage was 1:59.

Former three-title lightweight world champion Nate Campbell (34-8-1, 25 KOs) got his first victory in two years with a workmanlike unanimous decision against Russia-based Uzbek Sherzod Nazarov (12-5, 10 KOs), 27, over eight uneventful rounds. Scores were 80-73, 79-74 and 79-73 - all for the 39-year old American.

Young American gun Yaundale Evans moved up to 14-0, with 10 KOs, following a dominant stoppage of willing but overmatched Russian Ruslan Berchuk (4-3, 1 KO), 24.

Evans, 22, had some troubles with his opponent in the starting rounds, then improved his ring movement and utilized the right jab to control the flow of the fight from round three. At the end of the fifth stanza, Berchuk went in and ate a smashing right hand, which had him completely out on his feet. Referee Daniel Van de Wiele stepped in and halted the bout at 2:29 of the 5th.

Evans is now a holder of the WBC Youth Intercontinental interim title at 130 lbs. Scores after the fourth were 40-36 - for Evans on all the judges scorecards.

In the starting contest of the night, Sergey Ekimov (5-0, 2 KOs) scored a workmanlike six-round decision over determined but incapable Khaibulla Madzhidov (4-6, 2 KOs). 25-year old Ekimov wisely avoided unnecessary exchanges and got a lopsided score 60-54 from all three judges (Evgueny Gorstkov, Vladimir Nazarov and Alexander Kalinkin). Referee was Baban Nadyrov.

The "Battle of Two Empires" is under way at "Dynamo" arena in Krylatskoye, Moscow, Russia, under Vladimir Hryunov and the Square Ring promotions. Six bouts are scheduled with a main event being a showdown between aging legend Roy Jones Jr. and Russian cruiserweight Denis Lebedev. It starts at around 7:30 PM LT.
