Avni Yildirim returns to action following a controversial title bout against Anthony Dirrell and will be aiming to get another title shot as the first mandatory to the WBC super middleweight champion.

Yildirim will face Colombian Carlos Galvan (16-9-1) on September 28th in Los Angeles, as part of the undercard to the welterweight unification between Errol Spence Jr. and Shawn Porter.

The Turkish fighter will compete on the same night that Dirrell defends his WBC world title against undefeated challenger David Benavidez.

Yildirim thinks that he deserved to win against Dirrell last time. The match was stopped by referee due to Dirrell’s cut at the 10th round.

“Galvan's bout will be a good preparation for the championship match. I don’t underestimate my opponent. I will work hard as always. That’s why they called me 'Mr. Robot' - I work like a machine. The opponent is not important. My work ethic will be the same. It’s not easy to win in the United States for us. I want to bring another glory to my country in September. My actual target is the winner of Benavidez vs Dirrell fight,” said Yildirim.

Yildirim’s manager, Ahmet Oner, also gives a statement for BoxingScene.

“We never underestimate our opponents, we respect Galvan and his team. He is Colombian and Colombian fighters have punch power. We have to be careful. He fought with good guys and gained experience. However Avni also has good experience in the United States, he won against former world champion Glen Johnson. I expect a comfortable and satisfying win from Avni. I don’t want to think about any other outcome. Avni has gotten used to this atmosphere already and I am confident,” said Yildirim’s manager Ahmet Oner.
