Martin Murray has confirmed that his next fight is off.

The former four-time world title challenger, from St Helens, was set to face Arthur Abraham in a rematch next month.

Murray (33-4-1, 16 KOs) lost to the German for the WBO world title last November and was ready to avenge the defeat against the 36-year-old super-middleweight, who has since succumbed his crown to Gilberto Ramirez, on November 12, live on Sky Sports.

The pair were scheduled to do battle a second time –– this time with Abraham’s WBO International belt at stake –– at the Salle des Étoiles in Monte Carlo, Monaco, as part of a card topped by Matchroom Boxing’s latest signing Luis Ortiz, in a clash against Malik Scott for the vacant WBA Inter-Continental heavyweight belt, which is flanked by the challenge by Stephen Smith to Jason Sosa’s ‘regular’ WBA super-featherweight title and Jamie McDonnell’s defence of the WBA ‘regular’ bantamweight crown against Liborio Solis.

However, after German newspaper Bild initially reported that the showdown would not take place, Murray confirmed that his clash against the Armenian-born fighter (45-5, 30 KOs) had been canned.

“Just to let [you] all know, my rematch with Arthur Abraham is off,” the 34-year-old wrote on social media.

“[We are] just in the process of sorting another opponent now.”

Murray wrote in the tweet that the reasoning behind the cancellation of the fight was not down to Abraham being injured.

Further details will be revealed in due course.
