Good thing welterweight Artemio Reyes does not get paid by the round. He purses would not amount to a whole lot, especially with his recent string of knockouts.

Reyes scored another early knockout, this time over Francisco Reza in the second round of a scheduled eight round bout at the Doubletree Hotel in Ontario, CA.

The bout headlined a seven bout "New Blood" card, presented by Thompson Boxing Promotions.

Reyes had not fought since knocking out Sergio Perez in the second round back on July 26th. He had scored three consecutive knockouts entering Friday's bout against Reza.

Reza had lost two bouts in a row prior to stepping inside the ring against Reyes.

Reyes was able to repeatedly land straight right hands to the head of Reza. For the most part, Reza took them well, trying to fight back by getting inside of Reyes' guard.

In the second, Reyes almost abandoned going to the head and instead, going to the body of Reza. A well-placed left hook to the body dropped Reza to one knee. Reza got up, but went back down when Reyes landed a right to the body. Reza remained on the canvas on his knees and tried to beat the count, but referee Jack Reiss reached the count of 10 at 1:15.

Reyes has won his last five bouts in a row since an April 2012 loss to Alan Sanchez. In the three bouts Reyes has fought in 2013, he has fought a total of seven rounds.

Reyes, from nearby Colton and a business administration student at CSU, San Bernardino, goes to 21-2, 17 KOs. Reza, from Torreon, Coahuila, Mexico, drops to 12-9, 9 KOs.

- This was the final card of 2013 for Thompson Boxing Promotions.

Welterweight Giovanni Santillan remained unbeaten, stopping Michael Balasi in the second round of a scheduled eight round bout. In a battle of southpaws, Balasi (10-3, 7 KOs) mostly pressed the fight, throwing an abundant amount of punches. Some landed flush, but most were blocked by Santillan's gloves or hit his arms. Santillan (11-0, 7 KOs) countered well, even he was not as busy as Balasi. Late in the second round, Santillan stunned Balasi with a barrage of punches. Santillan went in for the kill as Balasi backed up against the ropes. When it looked as though Balasi was unable to defend himself, referee Pat Russell stepped in and stopped the bout at 2:41.

Super lightweight Jose Roman won a six round unanimous decision over Hector Miguel Zuniga. Both fighters had their moments in the first couple of rounds of the fight. Zuniga (13-4, 8 KOs) was somewhat effective in landing looping hooks and crosses to Roman's head and body. Roman (15-1-1, 11 KOs) allowed Zuniga to press the fight, biding his time to counter. As the bout progressed, Roman's punches began to take their toll. Towards the end of the fourth round, a combination punctuated with a right cross dropped Zuniga to one knee. Zuniga would survive the round, but fought more cautiously from the outside, wary of Roman's punching power during the final two rounds. All three judges scored the bout in favor of Roman, 60-53, 60-53, and 58-55. Boxingscene.com scored the bout 59-54 in favor of Roman.

Heavyweight Javier Torres remained unbeaten with a four round unanimous decision over Kevin Howard. Torres 6-0-1, 3 KOs) started off well in the first round, beating Howard to the punch during most exchanges. Undaunted, Howard (3-12-1, 1 KO) was able to counter effectively, landing right hands to the head in the second round. Howard started slowing down late in the third round, allowing Torres to land more. Howard would fight in spurts, catching Torres with hands down and landing to the head. Towards the end of the fourth round, Howard was exhausted, barely making it to the final bell. All three judges, including Boxingscene.com, scored the bout 39-37 in favor of Torres.

Welterweight Oscar Godoy won an eight round split decision over Ricky Duenas. Godoy (12-2, 6 KOs) repeatedly beat the southpaw Duenas to the punch. While Duenas pressed the action, he would drop his hands on the inside, allowing Godoy to counter with straight right or counter right hands to the head. When Duenas (12-3, 6 KOs) threw punches, he was able to beat Godoy to the punch, but was never consistent enough to win rounds. His best moment in the fight was in the last seconds of the eighth round, when he stunned Godoy with a right hand. Godoy was able to back and make it until the final bell. One judge scored the bout 77-75 in favor of Duenas, while the other two judges scored the bout 80-72 and 77-75 for Godoy. Boxingscene.com scored the bout 78-74 in favor of Godoy.

In a battle of large heavyweights, Justin Davenport knocked out Justin Goslee in the first round of a scheduled four round bout. At Thursday's weigh-in, the 6'9" Goslee tipped the scales at 330 pounds, while the 6'6" weighed in at 258 pounds. Goslee (2-1, 2 KOs) tried to impose his will on Davenport while the southpaw Davenport tried to counter. All it took for Davenport (1-0-1) was one counter left cross to the chin, sending Goslee down to along the ropes. Referee Pat Russell began counting, but waved the count over at 2:00.

Welterweight Oscar Torres from Colombia was successful in his pro debut, winning a four round unanimous decision owe Cory Muldrew. Both fighters had their moments early on, with Muldrew (1-5) pressing the action. Torres hurt Muldrew in the third round with a counter right hand to the head, but was unable to capitalize. Torres beat Muldrew to the punch in the final round to secure the decision win. All three judges scored the bout in favor of Torres, 39-37, 39-37, and 40-36.
