Former world champion Antonio Margarito is looking to secure a big fight in the near future. The boxer is scheduled to return on March 5th at the Mexico City Arena when he faces Jorge 'Maromerito' Páez.

Margarito, 38-years-old, has been inactive since December of 2011. He was stopped in nine rounds in his last fight by Miguel Cotto.

The Mexican veteran wants to prove that his skills are still the same and there are no issues with his right eye. He suffered a fractured orbital bone in his 2010 decision loss to Manny Pacquiao. After multiple surgeries, the eye quickly swelled up in the early rounds of his fight with Cotto and eventually led to the fight being stopped.

He retired after that fight, fearing that his eye would create problems in future contests.

If the boxer looks good against Paez Jr. (39-7-2, 23 KOs), promoter Fernando Beltran of Zanfer Promotions may look to match him against the likes of  Ramon Alvarez (brother of Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez), or even a rematch with former world champion Shane Mosley.

But Margaritos ultimate goal is to get a trilogy fight with Cotto or a showdown with Canelo.

"The truth is that we've always had an excellent relationship with Margairto, from the moment he started his career and to this day. We are doing all we can to provide a platform for him. We hope that he gives a great fight but it will not be easy, and he wants to test himself there [in Mexico] because he wants to return to the United States to seek a trilogy with Miguel Cotto or a fight with Canelo Alvarez, but it all depends on how he looks in Mexico," Beltran told ESPN Deportes.

"I think people are still proud of what Margarito did in his career and have fond memories. He put Mexico up countless times and he made a mistake because like all humans we make mistakes and he paid for it. Ee expect a full arena. The venue will be open to full capacity and hopefully they can enjoy a great show."
