BoxingScene.com recently spoke to Shann Vilhauer, who trains undefeated junior welterweight contender Mike Alvarado (32-0). The Denver, Colorado native faces Mauricio Herrera on April 14th at the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas underneath the Brandon Rios-Richard Abril main event.  The fight card will be broadcast on HBO pay-per-view.

Vilhauer said that they are holding Alvarado's training camp in Southern California where he has made the rounds to gyms such as the Azteca Boxing Club and Latin Snake Training Gym.  He has sparred with  former champions and veterans such as Miguel Vazquez, Alfonso Gomez, Sergio Mora and Jamal Harris.

Alvarado's trainer feel that 2012 will be a big year for the 31-year old banger.  Alvarado capped off a successful 2011 campaign by coming from behind to knockout Breidis Prescott in the final round of their exciting fight this past November. According to VIlhauser, Alvarado has been very sharp in camp and is ready to dazzle the fans when he steps in the ring against Herrera.

"Mike is looking great.  He's been sparring with Vazquez, Mora, Alfonso Gomez and Jamal Harris. He is ready to go.  On April 14th his skills will be on display," Vilhauser told Boxingscene.

Vilhauser also said that trainer Rudy Hernandez, who trains Urbano Antillon, will serve as Alvarado's cutman in the Herrera fight.
