Promoter Joe DeGuardia couldn’t have been more proud of his fighter’s performance against Amir Khan. Chris Algieri was game and tried to take the fight to Amir Khan but ended up on the losing end of a unanimous decision at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Friday night.

“I thought Chris did a great job,” DeGuardia told BoxingScene.com “I was very impressed and pleased with how he executed his game plan with his new trainer with John David Jackson. Barclays Center is the perfect place for Algieri. We’re disappointed with the loss and the wide cards but we’re glad we were a part of Spike TV and PBC, and this whole new concept.”

DeGuardia feels that two losses in a row doesn’t hurt the stock of his fighter.

“He’s fighting at the top of the game with Khan and Pacquiao, it’s where you want to be,” the promoter said. “You’re much better off fighting fights like this out there than beating lower level fighters. Last year when he fought Provodnikov, he showed he had heart and aggression. This time he started being the aggressor here.”

DeGuardia’s company Star Boxing has boxers fighting on all platforms, some on PBC, and others on HBO. The promoter feels the times are good and he will take his fighters on the best avenue possible.

“Exciting times in boxing,” DeGuardia said. “Boxing is thriving. We’re on network television, HBO and channels we never been before. It’s a good time in boxing. Wherever the best opportunity lies for our boxers it’s where we’ll be whether its HBO or PBC.”
