Former WBO junior welterweight champion Chris Algieri (20-2, 8 KOs) was a heavy underdog in his fight against Amir "King" Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) on Friday night. The two boxers collided in the main event of a Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) card on Spike, which took place at Brooklyn's Barclays Center.

After twelve rounds, Khan walked away with the win. The scores were 117-111 on two cards and by 115-113 on the third. Algieri lost for the second time in a row after dropping a twelve round decision to Manny Pacquiao last November in Macua, China.

Algieri, now with trainer John David Jackson, did much better than anyone had previously expected. He took the fight to Khan, landed solid right hands and appeared to handle the speed and power of Khan very well.

Before the official scores were announced, Algieri felt confident that he did more than enough to secure the win.

"I was confident that I had won, but I thought it was gonna be close...just because of the styles. Amir is very good at taking rounds....even rounds where he got hurt and rounds where he got cracked. He's good at being shifty. He's a cagey fighter. And we've seen that throughout his career. He's very good at winning rounds. I thought it would be close in terms of that. But in terms of a fight...man I won the fight," Algieri told BoxingScene.com.
