In February, Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26KOs) Tweeted that Devon Alexander was the leading candidate to face him on May 4th in Las Vegas. Mayweather ultimately decided to face Robert Guerrero whom he defeated via unanimous decision. Needless to say, the press that Alexander received from the Tweet makes him a leading candidate to face the pound-for-pound king in September. On the latest edition of BoxingScene Radio we asked Alexander if that fight was still at the top of his wish list.

"For sure. Everybody wants to fight Floyd. That comes without saying. When someone says they want to fight Floyd people say 'he just wants the payday. He just wants to cash out.' That is not what I want. People know I want to fight Floyd. If that opportunity came up I would love to fight Floyd. Its not for the pay day. It's for the opportunity to beat him and be one of the best in boxing. The opportunity to try to dethrone him like many have tried," Alexander explained.

The St. Louis native is confident that he hand Mayweather his first lost. Alexander is confident that his trainer Kevin Cunningham can come up with the perfect game plan to dethrone the WBC welterweight champion.

"Floyd is a one of a kind fighter. He's right about being on top for such a long time. He's 44-0. 44 have tried and nobody has beat him. He's 36 but still an explosive fighter. In order to beat Floyd I think you have to match him with speed," stated Alexander.

"You have to have the same abilities that he has. No slow fighter, or fighter that just stands there is going to beat him. I think I have the smarts and me and my team can come up with the perfect game plan," Alexander told BoxingScene Radio.
