Scottish boxer Alex Arthur has announced his retirement from the sport at the age of 35.

The former WBO world super-featherweight and Commonwealth champion confirmed the news to his Twitter followers.

The Edinburgh fighter boasted a record of 31 wins and just three defeats in his career.

Arthur tweeted: "Well... Woke up 35 today. Time goes so fast, I have never fought for over a year now so just want to say I officially retire from boxing today!"

Arthur also had a sucessful career as an amateur, securing gold in the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur before winning belts at British, Commonwealth, European and World super-featherweight levels after turning to the professional game in 2000.

He now runs his own promotions company and is also a well-regarded boxing pundit.
