Sheffield's Junior Witter was outpointed by Ahmed El Mousaoui in their EBU-EU welterweight title bout in Alpes-Maritimes, France on Friday night. The 41-year-old (43-8-2) had been on a two-fight winning streak but came out the wrong side of the judges' verdict in a close twelve round split decision contest against the local favorite. The judges saw the fight 116-110, 118-109 for the local fighter and 115-112 for Witter.

Witter, a former World, European, British, and Commonwealth champion will now consider his next options while El Mousaoui will look to make the step up having improved his record to 22-1-1.
