According to sources in Mexico, negotiations are ongoing for a match between Abner Mares (26-1, 14KOs) and WBC super featherweight champion Takashi Miura (27-2-2, 20KOs) of Japan. The match is reportedly eyed for the Floyd Mayweather Jr. card on May 3rd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Mares would move up to 130-pounds and attempt to capture his fourth world title. Last year he won the WBC featherweight title by stopping Daniel Ponce De Leon, but in his first defense he was stopped in the first round by Jhonny Gonzalez. The two were scheduled to have a rematch, but then Mares suffered a rib injury and withdrew.

Miura has a good streak going over Mexican contenders, having beaten in his recent matches -  Gamaliel Diaz, Sergio Thompson and Dante Jardon.
