Former three division world champion Abner Mares (26-1, 14KOs) is not positive if he'll accept a potential fight with WBC super featherweight champion Takashi Miura (27-2-2, 20KOs) of Japan. The match is being negotiated for the Floyd Mayweather-Marcos Maidana Showtime Pay-Per-View card on May 3rd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Miura is already on board and ready to fight. Mares is still considering the move. It would be the fourth weight division for Mares, who is coming a first round TKO loss to Jhonny Gonzalez last year. The two were scheduled to have a rematch, but then Mares suffered a rib injury and withdrew.

"It's under negotiations. I know they were talking to his team. Obviously he said yes, because I'm the smaller guy and it's a good fight for him and [his team] said it was a good payday for him as well. Right now it's about making the right move, making the right decision and we're at a point where [I have to think on whether] this is the right fight for me to come back [to]. Again, it's not confirmed because neither have I or anyone from my team said yes. Right now it's just really about whether it's the right fight [for me]," Mares told BoxingScene.com.
