Guayama, Puerto Rico - Abner Cotto (12-0, 10KO's) remains undefeated and became the national lightweight champion, winning a unanimous decision over the experienced Fernando Torres, who fell to (17-3-1, 10 KO's). The judges saw a lopsided decision for Cotto, with scores of 98-90, 98-90 and 97-91.

Both boxers had their moments in the early rounds. Cotto made a statement in the fifth when he dropped Torres with a big right and had him in trouble. Torres tried to rally in the late rounds but once again he was hurt and went down in the tenth, as Cotto attacked with both hands to fight him off.

"I feel super good about this win. Undoubtedly, so far, it is the greatest achievement of my career because of the quality of my opponent. The victory was the result of many hours and days of work and I thank God we got the win," said Abner Cotto, after the fight.

Meanwhile, Fernando Torres, said, "It was a really hard fight in which we both had our moments. I understand that we both gave a great fight and we gave a good display for the public. I will be back to resume my career and show my quality."
